Realationship with Children that are not your own

I have a boyfriend whom I love dearly and when the time comes with his kids i get excited to see them and get to play with them..But when a serious problem comes up he tells me its not my problem...when it comes to his kids...I feel really worthless because he will not talk to me about anything regarding what is bothering him.. He tells me its not my problem and doesnt involve me and i told him I will remember that..but I feel lifeless i love his kids to death as i love my daughter and Our Son....I just need some advice i am tired of being closed out of his world when he is feeling upset I thought realationships where suppose to be open and we talk about our problems?
