Maybe he is just plain scared. Do you live near family? If so, try leaving your baby with your mom, or someone else you can trust as much, overnight, and go somewhere like a hotel room. Away from baby toys and bottles, and have a night where you are husband and wife, lovers and friends, not just "mommy & daddy".
Sometimes men have a hard time dealing with the fact that they are no longer number one. As far as the crowding thing goes, are you constantly asking him if he is ok, or happy, or what he is feeling? Maybe you just need to step back for a little while and let him breathe. If all else fails, and you both really believe that this is worth a fight, than try couples therapy. Just keep in mind though, if it doesn't work out, it will not be the end of the world. You can still be wonderful parents and have a good family if you aren't together.
