Batteries. :(

I was just trying to be nice, lending my car to someone for a short while.
This particular person left the lights on and now my battery is dead, I had to get my boyfriend to come and deal with it because these people around me at the time were not able to get the car started again, the alarm kept going off.
So here's the problem, I am the Godmother to this person's daughter, and I have to see him all the time. I don't want him to treat this as no big deal because apparently due to that battery rundown incident, now I have to replace my car's battery and it's going to cost a pretty penny.
How do I tell him that I am not particularly pleased with the situation and that he should take some responsibility for it?

Well depending on how old the battery is, couldn't you just charge it up? Anyways, I would ask the gentleman about the car situation. See if he'll pay for a new battery or even half the cost. If he doesn't, keep this in mind before you loan anything out to help others, and let it go. Just know that you learned a lesson.

Hmmmm...alright, well what I would do is to not say anything but if this person wants to borrow your car again, just mention to please be careful and turn off all the the things that can make your battery low and just quickly explain what happened last time. I'm sure it'll be fine.

I know this doesn't help you much at all but I've never heard of a battery getting killed from running it down.
Chances are, it may have just been bad timing on his part if the battery is old.
It is quite possible that it was just a coincidence and your car was due for a new battery.
I wouldn't say anything to the person, it sounds like it was just a case of bum luck for you and while yes, it really sucks when you're trying to do something nice for him, you didn't have to agree to help.
Take it with a grain of salt. There have probably been times in life when someone has assisted you and been put out in the process but they kept quiet because they knew you were already having a tough time.
Mistakes happen all the time. Try to move past it.

This person must be a friend if you are the Godparent to their child.
Let them know you problems with the car battery... maybe they have no idea of what happened.
A true friend will be willing to compensate you for the battery.
