Abstract: Not just a 'Ghost' remake
The critics appear split on 'Just Like Heaven', but it seems that Romantic Comedy (Or "Rom-Coms" as I've heard them expressed) afficionados have found a lot to like in the film, as evidenced by the high average rating given the movie by non-critic viewers on my local movie listings site. While certainly formulaic in parts, the film delivers enough in sweetness, originality and good performances to rank as a better than average R.C. offering.
Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are a good match here, both showing the requisite cuteness pedigrees, while also possessing depth and subtlety in their acting abilites. Witherspoon, after excelling in more off-beat roles in 'Election', and 'Pleasantville', seems content these days to take roles in safely good, unambitious, big-budget films, that really do not put her considerable acting abilites to the test. Perhaps she'll be stretched more in the upcoming 'Walk the Line', playing the wife of Johnny Cash.
While I enjoyed 'Just Like Heaven'. I did find the attempt at social relevance a tad irksome. Unless done with supreme skill, this sort of insertion in a R.C. generally comes out ham-handed and clunky.

The romantic voice that hides deep within this movie will make you want to go hug and kiss a loved one. Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo did an outstanding job describing how a couple falls in love through a spooky misconception. This movie was the perfect pile of love and temptation. What a fantastic movie.

It seems that this is another of those movies in which the writers forget to give us a reason to like the characters, or understand what they see in each other. Well that may be a bit harsh, ‘cause my friend liked it (but, she thinks that LEAD MALE CHARACTER is cute so she may be biased).

I am officially no longer a Reese Witherspoon fan. After the wonderful 'Election', I sat through banal disasters like Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama.
After seeing that Mark Ruffalo was in this one, I thought I give it a shot, but it was really terrible.
