Herbie: Fully Loaded

|
|
Abstract: Another remake of a classic
I daresay this will be Lindsay Lohan's last youth movie. Her sudden weight-loss and more mature fashion of late seem to indicate a desire on her part to shed the child/teenie-bopper image that has made her a mega-star. Her performance here as the racing-obsessed Maggie is more subdued than in previous outings, and she appears to be having less fun.
Herbie: Fully Loaded is a passably fun movie, thanks to the over-the-top antics of villain Matt Dillon, and a nice performance by Michael Keaton as Maggie's Dad. Herbie himself is cute enough, though gone are the days in which we are automatically impressed by cgi-wizardry – cool graphics are par for the course now.
A veteran of Sunday evening Disney shows, I watched the original Herbie movies with the rapt attention of a pre-teen, and found myself feeling pleasantly nostalgic while catching this remake. I did find, however, that a certain energy was missing from this update, though perhaps I'm remembering the originals with overly rosy hindsight.
