Abstract: Pixar's newest animal action-comedy offering

In Madagascar, Pixar has aimed lower than in previous efforts, but safely delivered the goods. A cabal of eccentric New York city zoo animals escape from captivity, only to be recaptured and deported back to Africa. During the voyage, mutinous pengiuns start a chain of events that lead to our motley crew being shipwrecked on Madagascar. Hilarity ensues.

It's not that I didn't enjoy this film - the animation was nice-looking (in a retro way), there was comedy a-plenty, and the voice-acting was fun - but there was a little something missing from Madagascar. Perhaps the movie's Pixar predecessors set the bar too high in the sly pop-references and clever irony department. Certainly the kids will enjoy this one, but those of us looking for an adult subtext will be disappointed.
