Abstract: Stunning period piece with a stellar cast; Scorese and DiCaprio work their magic again.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the Howard Hughes in Scorsese's newest bioepic, The Aviator. The movie focuses on the period of Hughes' life from his late 20s through to his mid-40s - the eccentric billionaire's glory years. Throughout the film, we see Hughes achieve monumental successes while simultaneously battling his inner demons.

A specialist of the period piece, Scorsese has crafted a beautiful piece of filmmaking, featuring excellent acting (especially from DiCaprio and Blanchett), and incredible set design and costumes.

The film has garnered a slew of nominations in this year's Oscar race (eleven); including, Best Picture, Best Director (Martin Scorsese), Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Alan Alda and Cate Blanchett), Costume Design, Screenplay and many others. Best Actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio, Scorsese's star in 2002's Gangs of New York, does his best work here since "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" for which he earned a well deserved Best Actor Nomination in 1994.
