Abstract: Keanu's newest special effects thriller

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why Keanu Reeves keeps landing
these mega-budget icon action roles. There's no question that the guy
won the genetic lottery in the looks department, but man oh man is he an
abysmal actor: wooden, uninteresting, uninspired and to top it off,
taking himself far too seriously.

Nothing new here in Constantine, the newest Fantasy/Sci Fi special
effects extravaganza, in which Reeves broods his way through the movie
as a man endowed with special demon-spotting sight. Not a hint of
emotion ever seems to show up on Reeves' face; it's a though he figures
that every shot in which he appears should be suitable for GQ's cover
photo.

Other cast members fare better, though they are wasted in this
light-on-plot film. Rachel Weisz does a credible job as a woman set on
avenging her twin sister's death, and Tilda Swinton & Peter Stormare do
nice work as, repectively, the angel Gabriel and Satan himself.

It's too bad director Francis Lawrence was too preoccupied with making
every shot look like a sexy version of Milton's Paradise Lost, as this
was an intriguing premise that has gotten lost in cgi and cartoonish
goth.
