Where There's Smoke There's Fire
Time to take the plunge into smoky! This look has been all the rage for years and shows no sign of losing popularity anytime soon. Why? In one word: Smouldering...Sexy....Sultry. (Whoops, that's three words!)

This dramatic makeup will be great for sexy evenings out or for when you feel the need to show the world a certain...attitude. This is a great smoky to start with as it's not too intense as smokys go and these hues should look great with all eye colors. Note: This look may not work well for smaller eyes. General rule - dark colors close eyes, bright colors open them up.

For best results, make sure to properly cleanse and moisturize your skin. Remove any previous eye makeup. Apply any foundation and powder as you would normally.

1. Use angled eyebrow brush to add slightly darker shade to your brows than your natural brow color.
2. Using a large shadow brush apply a greyish taupe color to the entire lid.

3. Use the same grey-taupe color to line underneath the lower lashes with the angled eyebrow brush. The line should be slightly heavier on the outer edges and taper to the inner corner.

4. With the angled brush again, use a smoky bluish grey color and draw in a thick line along the upper lashes.
5. Blend very well with the grey-taupe color that you previously applied to lid.

6. With a small eyeshadow brush, apply a smoky taupe brown shadow to the outer corner and along the crease.
7. Blend well with all colors already applied.
8. Apply black or brown-black mascara.

9. Optionally, for a really dramatic look, line the upper and lower inside lid. Use a smoky black eyeliner.
10. Be very careful with this technique as you will be applying makeup that is very close to your eye. Sharpen your eyeliner to get a nice point, then soften the tip slightly with your finger, and be sure to clean off any surface dirt.
11. Pull the skin directly under your lower lid down very gently. Run your eye pencil along the inside lid. Do the same with the upper lid, pulling up gently the upper lid.

12. Use a very neutral lip liner and lip color to complement the eyes. You don't want anything too bold since you're eyes are doing the talking with this look! We used "Stripdown" lip pencil by MAC and then applied "Faux" lipstick by MAC with a lipliner brush.
13. Finish the look with a very neutral blush and you're done!

Blending is important for this look. It's easy to get too much product under your eyes, which of course will give the appearance that you have a shiner! You want to strive for a nice clean smoky look that desn't look out of control. If you need to, clean off your eyelid and start again fresh if things get out of hand. The look should be very matte, so don't use any sparkle colors.

If you have smaller eyes and want to look dramatic for evening, use instead something with light, bright colors around the eyes for drama.

We decided to hold off on the green look because we loved the way our Winter Glamor turned out!
