For those looking to expand their makeup and hairstyle horizons, it's all about 'P.E.R.T.'
(Pert: High-spirited; vivacious, impudently bold; saucy!)
P is for Product

Having the right products, tools, and techniques is the first step to expanding your
hair and makeup knowledge. Explore resources such as in-store cosmetics personnel, fashion & hairstyle magazines,
and online review sites such as girlfriends.com. While persuing magazines, be sure to tear out looks and styles that interest you, so that you
can try them yourself later. When at your local cosmetics counter, be sure to ask the cosmetician lots of
questions and even ask for samples of products. Products that you like will form the foundation of your beauty
regime that will be continually added to or removed from as you find products that work better for you. Swap your rejects with those of your
friends'. Products work differently on each person, that's why so many lines exist! One woman's reject is another's favorite.
E is for Experiment

Once you have the right products, it is imperative that you experiment; and by this I don't mean throwing on a little something different while running out the door! I'm talking about sitting yourself down, grabbing those magazine tears and internet printouts you've collected and really focusing on re-creating the looks best for your features, skin type, and haircut and type. Have some cleanser and shampoo on hand to clear away product, and experiment with the look until you're satisfied (Or have decided the look doesn't work for you!), then immediately try another. Aim for at least 2 looks per session: 1 for day and 1 for night, and be sure to take notes so as to remember what you've done.
R is for Risk

Once you've experimented with your products and have some looks you like, throw one on and venture outside, asking your friends for their honest
opinons. If they're lukewarm in their reactions - it's nothing a trip to the washroom can't fix! Tissue, water and some touch-up makeup or comb and pins from your purse can easily alter the look. Most likely though, your creativity will give you a fresh, attractive, perhaps even trend-setting appearance that makes you feel more confident and
impresses others.
T is for Time

Again, don't experiment while short of time or before attending an important event. Give yourself the creative space to experiment on new looks, allotting a couple of uninterrupted hours in front of the mirror and not planning anything important afterwards. If you're heading out to work or play (especially play), really work the look instead of rushing through it to end up with something "good enough". In either case, put on some music and a fabulous robe to get into a stylish, creative spirit. Don't feel silly or vain - you spend lots of time trying on outfits, right? You're doing the same thing here with your hair and makeup.
